The Reflection Beneath the Bridge

The Reflection Beneath the Bridge

As the water reflects the strong pillars holding up the bridge, my mind begins to wander and reflect in its own way.

I wonder about the choices I've made throughout my life. Like a choose-your-own-adventure book, I find myself thinking about what life would look like if I'd chosen differently.

Would I still have a chronic illness?

Would I still carry the trauma I've experienced?

Would I be a completely different person?

It's easy to let your mind wander down those paths. To imagine different versions of your life and wonder where they might have led.

But that's the thing about reflection.

When I really think about it, I wouldn't change a single thing.

Not because everything has been easy. Far from it.

There have been moments that have broken me, challenged me, and left me wondering how I was supposed to keep moving forward. There have been decisions I questioned and paths I wasn't sure I should have taken.

But every choice, every challenge, every wrong turn and right turn has led me here.

To the family I have.

To the lessons I've learned.

To the person I've become.

As I look into the reflection on the water, I don't see sadness staring back at me.

I see strength.

I see resilience.

I see someone who has weathered more storms than she ever thought she could and is still standing.

I see someone who is more prepared than ever for whatever life decides to throw her way next.

For the first time in a long time, I can honestly say that I've taken the right path.

A shadow passes across the water and suddenly the reflection is gone.

My thoughts return to the present and I'm once again back on the trail.

The path ahead bends and meanders out of sight. I can't see where it leads, and I don't know what waits around the next corner.

But maybe that's okay.

Because I've learned that no matter which path I choose, it will become part of my story.

So don't spend too much time dwelling on decisions you've made in the past. You can't change them, no matter how many times you replay them in your mind.

All you can do is live the life in front of you, learn from the road you've travelled, and keep moving forward.

And when you do, try to do it with no regrets.

Because every choice you've made has helped shape the person you are today.

Sometimes the path doesn't end.

It simply bends.
